Privacy policy

1. Who we are
Taarof is a food-tracking app that lets you record the dishes and products you've tasted, score them, and carry those tastings across restaurants and brands. This policy explains what we collect and why.
2. What we collect
Account: your email address (used only to sign you in via a one-time code — we never ask for a password). Content you create: tastings, scores, notes, photos you attach, menu items, products and partnerships. Optional: your approximate location (only when you tap to use it, to find nearby places) and dietary preferences you enter. If you subscribe to Premium, we receive a transaction identifier from your app store — we never see or store your payment card details.
3. How we use it
To provide the core features — your journal, the map, comparisons, and (when you choose to share) anonymised reviews to restaurants. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not show third-party ads.
4. Photos & camera
Photos you take or pick are uploaded to private storage and attached to your own entries. The camera is used only when you choose to scan a barcode or a menu; barcode/menu images are processed to read text and are not used for any other purpose.
5. Location
Location is requested only when you tap "use my location" and is used to bias nearby search. It is not tracked in the background.
6. Where it's stored
Data is stored with our infrastructure provider (Supabase, in the EU — Frankfurt). Access is protected by row-level security so you can only read and write your own data, except content you explicitly choose to share.
8. Public reviews
Reviews are public by default so other diners can discover good dishes — you can change this for any individual review, and you can change the default for new reviews in Settings → Public by default. When a review is public, the dish's page shows your handle, your display name, your avatar, and the review itself (your score, notes, and any photo you attach). Public content is visible to anyone using Taarof, may be cached by your device or our infrastructure, and may be indexed by search engines, so treat anything you make public as out in the open. You can make any review private again or delete it at any time, and deleting your account removes your reviews on the schedule described above; once content has been public, copies may persist in caches or search indexes outside our control until they refresh.
9. Your rights
You can edit your profile at any time and permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. You may also email us at hello@taarof.app to request a copy of your data.
10. Children
Taarof is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
11. Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
12. Contact
Questions about your data? Email hello@taarof.app.
